Forget 2012, Asteroids, and Global Warming - Fear Earth's Magnetic Pole Flip!

Okay, so you've lived through the cold war, Ice Age, Y2K, Peak Oil, Bird Flu, International Terrorists, and you are worried now about what exactly? Oh yes, Global Warming and 2012, but of course, ha ha ha. Aren't you getting too old for all this mass media hysteria and nonsense already? I mean how many decades do you have to live through before you realize these are all merely created realities to make you fear, knock you off your game, or transfer wealth.

Not long ago, I was discussing all this with a conspiracy theorists, and he asked; "Have you studied the magnetic poles and the consequences of a flip?" OMG I told him, okay so, forget 2012, asteroids, and Global Warming; fear Earth's Magnetic Pole Flip! Okay fine. Well, here is the thing, I actually have read up on this so I told him;

Global Warming

Yes, I have looked at the available information, listened to the late night talk-show hosts, and read up on this somewhat. Seems to be a lot of theories out there, and yet, we've never observed this, and I've never seen any computer modeling, not that I'd ever trust human computer modeling with such an important thing.

If this is a cyclical occurrence, then it would indeed explain much of the human record, holes in evolutionary theory, explanation of 26,000 year old pyramids under the ground near the Ukraine and lots of ancient tales of past civilizations. But, I am a huge skeptic, and I'd like to observe another planet going through such gyrations before too much over speculation.

He then claimed that; "we are 1000+ years overdue for a polar flip, where the North and South magnetic poles reverse. When I was born magnetic North travelled almost a mile a year. It has been accelerating for 50+ years now and today travels over 30 miles a year."

Sure, and this could account for all the warming of the Northern ice caps, a couple of degrees in tilt, off cycle from what we consider the normal tilt in relation to the Sun could cause that. Throw in some urban heat, El NiƱo's, etc. and all the current events, ice melting, ambient atmospheric temps, altitudes of upper atmosphere separations is all accounted for.

He said, "But you don't understand we are all going to die, this is serious; polar reversals in the past gave hints of change and then BANG the flip occurred within months."

Okay, I suppose this is all possible, so I told him could be, as that is how nature often works, take a car going around a corner too fast, you hear the tires squeal but the car continues going around the corner, and at the tipping point, it breaks lose, you suspect it might, and have warnings, but never know exactly when.

Even if you can calculate the avalanche of a giant sand hill in the Sarah Desert, you do not know exactly when it will occur, just that you are on the edge. But in planetary tectonic plate terms, this could be not micro-seconds like the car, or hours or days like the sand hill, it could be decades, centuries, or more. Have you read up on the HARRP project and the original theories of using it to stabilize the planet, atmosphere, communicate, and control things? It's interesting. It sure makes a lot of sense to me.

He continued to attempt to scare me on all this stuff and claimed; "the reversals were preceded by magnetic poles accelerating, but the actual flipping is quick."

Okay, so I challenged his data and asked for specifics; How does one know this, what human had a compass and measurement last time it happened? Has it been simulated in the Lab? Well, anyway, I love the theory, and it would be more than cool for a movie like CORE, 2012, or future Sci Fi genre.

But he said; "when this happens it will result in solar wind pressure on the atmosphere and possible EMP (electromagnetic pulse) events over the entire planet which could conceivably induce electrical arcs over power lines and motor contacts."

Now then, may as well play with all this some more, after all, I am sitting in Starbucks and who knows where these people come from, so I said; Yes, it would in theory screw up everything in our modern civilizations, and it would take a bit of time even after the re-alignment and bring it all back. It could take 10-years with maximum productivity to re-stabilize civilization, and back to present day 20-years + educational backlog and bottlenecks.

It would kill off lots of people; weather would be insane, 600 plus miles per hour at the surface in some areas. Earthquakes would leave much of everything not standing. Rubble everywhere, well, in theory, or it could be a gradual non-event for those living in certain areas, and major disaster for others?

He reminded me of some recent history; "Remember reading about fires starting from telegraph lines in the 1880's when they had a big solar flare event?" And I have to admit; yes, that was a very interesting event, perhaps solar flares, cosmic weather, etc, hard to say for sure. He told me that; we won't care about global warming because we will be starving. Worms may be the best source of protein we could find in times like that, but if you are hungry enough they will taste great." Well, the human biosystem has a resilient stomach and genetically we can eat most of anything, except a few poisonous things.

And because of comments like this and religion we have so many flocking to see Hollywood Movies of Doom and Gloom! But if the Earth wobbles, gyrates, and then find equilibrium, or if such a process takes 30-days, it might not be so bad, but it would sure change things a lot, nothing would be exactly the same anymore. Cool topic, but consider this debunked, it isn't happening any time soon, and a little adversity builds character anyway!

Water Pollution - Everything You Need to Know and How You can Help

What do the human body and the planet earth have in common?

Water. If the human body has about two-thirds water, our planet has about 70% of it, which establishes the fact that water constitutes a major portion in both body masses. And that is what's alarming. If 70% of the earth's surface is made up of water, then humankind should have been very wary of anything that would pollute this major portion of the planet. Alas, the human race has done otherwise. Water pollution is now a global problem.

Save Earth

Today, water pollution is rampant and the chief source of water pollution is the human race. We are the very ones that need water most and, yet, we have polluted it, even to the brink of extinction.

There are many types of water pollutants but these can be segregated into four classifications: natural, agricultural, municipal and industrial pollutants. Natural water pollutants could include all the natural phenomena that happen from time to time such as volcanic eruptions, earthquakes that cause major upheavals in the ocean floor and storms that cause flashfloods. Even global warming could be qualified as a cause of water pollution.

Agricultural pollution consists mainly of poultry and other agricultural animal wastes that are carelessly thrown off to bodies of water near farms. It could also be the fertilizers or pesticides that are used to make better crops, which erode into lakes, rivers or streams. Municipal wastes are those that come from residential areas. This is the liquid waste that households throw into bodies of water. Industrial pollution consists of all the wastes that major industrial firms chuck into the waters. This last classification is the most severe and most rampant among the three - and it is also the one that has caused the most damage. Industrial waste could include contaminants that are hard to take off from the waters once they spread - petroleum from oil spills or nuclear wastes.

The bodies of water in the world are in catastrophic danger, what with all the industries in the world today, plus our individual wastes all put together! No wonder mankind now drinks from bottles instead of just scooping water from running streams. The effects of water pollution to humanity is staggering. But we should also consider all the other life forms that suffer - the fishes and other animals such as birds, and plants. And what happens when humans eat the very fishes that live in polluted waters? Do you still want that answered?

But where there is life, there is hope. There is something that we can do - you can do - to save the only planet that we have. You could be an advocate, in your own simple way, of retrieving the lost beauty of oceans, lakes, rivers and streams. Here is a list that might get you to consider in fighting water pollution:

1. Primarily, you should prevent water pollution. Just like an illness, it is much simpler to prevent its occurrence rather than to cure. Begin at your own home. Make sure that you conserve water. You can never imagine the water shortages that happen all over the globe. So if you have a constant supply of water at home, use it wisely.

2. Plant trees (if circumstance would allow you). Having more trees or plants in your yard would prevent pollutants from flowing freely into nearby bodies of water. Since they keep the soil from eroding, water pollution or, at least, the quality of the water is improved.

3. Do not throw any form of garbage into any body of water. Sign up for any organization that aims in cleaning up beaches (or lakes, or streams). Be an active member of such organizations.

4. Never throw water pollutants down your sink or toilet bowl. Make sure to dispose wastewater properly. Think of the many septic tanks that contribute to water pollution. Now, 'get the picture?

Luckily, for all of us, there were concerned lawmakers out there that have made legislations on water pollution. The U.S. alone has several anti-water pollution laws such as the Federal Water Pollution Control Act of 1972, The Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974, and the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act, which was amended in 1988. These laws prevent further damage to U.S. waters.

Although water pollution is an extensive problem, bridling it is still possible. And everything begins with each and every individual in each and every home. And yes, that population includes YOU.

Causes of Global Warming

In present times, the green house gases like methane, carbon dioxide, and nitrous oxide are playing havoc on our environment. These green house gases trap the heat of sun into earth's atmosphere causing increase in the temperature. Power plants are the major sources of carbon dioxide. These power plants emit huge quantities of carbon dioxide, which is produced when fossil fuel is burnt for generation of electricity. Burning of gasoline in vehicles contributes to more than 20% of carbon dioxide emission in the atmosphere.

Major Contributors of Global Warming

Global Warming

Commercial and residential buildings need a lot of fuel to be burnt, emitting huge amounts of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. As compared to carbon dioxide, methane is twenty times more effectual at entrapping the heat in the atmosphere. Methane is obtained from several resources such as bovine flatulence, paddles, fossil fuel manufacture and bacteria in bogs. Flood in the fields decays the organic matter, and releases methane in the atmosphere. Nylon and nitric acid production, use of fertilizers in the agriculture, cars with catalytic converters and burning of organic matter are main sources of nitrous oxide. More than 33% of carbon dioxide emission comes from engines of light trucks and cars. Vehicles that have poor mileage contribute maximum to the global warming.

The way we use our land is one of the major cause of global warming. Modern agriculture practices that are used to grow cereals, breed animals, grow vegetables and fruits and other foods for human consumption, and all these agricultural practices lead to emission of greenhouse gases including nitrous oxide and methane.

There is no doubt that in last few decades, deforestation has become one of the biggest sources of greenhouse gas emissions. Carbon dioxide is the main gas emitted, in addition to small amounts of nitrous oxide and methane. Tropical rainforests are very crucial for regulating the regional and global climate patterns. The environment can get tremendously affected if these forests are destroyed. Rainforests remove the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by the process of photosynthesis.

Another reason and cause of global warming is the fact that human population is growing, and in addition to increase in the fuel usage for transportation, energy and power, people need to be fed, which leads to increased deforestation for the purpose of agriculture.

There are some natural causes of global warming as well. Temperature of the planet is affected by changes in the shape of orbit of Earth around the Sun, and also by the tilt of its axis because both these factors affect the amount of solar energy received by the planet. As Sun is the only source of energy responsible for functioning of Earth's climate system, change in output of solar energy can lead to change in the climate, especially, global warming.

One more natural cause of global warming is the aerosol emission of volcanic eruptions that blocks the sunlight, and causes short-term cooling on affected parts of the earth. The volcanic eruptions emit carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, however, most scientists believe that humans are far more responsible for the damage as compared to volcanic eruptions.

Change in ocean current is also a natural cause of global warming because rise and fall of current creates global change. Oceanic currents have considerable effect on the changes of heat pattern around the earth. This effect varies from region to region, and may also be related to rotation of sun.

All greenhouse gases are the causes of immediate global warming, and these emissions are being produced by almost each and every imaginable human activity. Hence, in order to control global warming, we need to make some lifestyle changes that are more appreciative of environmental health. We also need to start developing and using the renewable sources of energy. Global warming needs to be controlled, now, else by 2100, the average temperature on earth will increase by 3-9 degrees, which will be truly devastating.

Green Ecological Products Can Help Save the Earth

Green ecological products are becoming more popular, we now recognize those companies that realize the importance of green ecological products. Our efforts to preserve earth to have clean water, clear skies and contaminate free soil, trying to reverse our current path of filling the air and water and soil with toxins and contaminants, perhaps we can return to a pristine earth by choosing green ecological products, we will be taking steps in the right direction. If you have noticed the various forms of pollution and the damage they cause to the world around us harming the ecosystems, animals and humans, it's plain to see the importance of choosing green ecological products.

There are various different categories for Green ecological products to go under.

Save Earth

organic certified, in general it means produced without pesticides or harmful fertilizes, a good choice for a green ecological product. Britannica defines it as the following "there's some variation: the National Organic Standards Board considers organic agriculture to be "an ecological production management system that promotes and enhances biodiversity, biological cycles and soil biological activity. It is based on minimal use of off-farm inputs and on management practices that restore, maintain and enhance ecological harmony."

Green A green product, is environmentally and socially responsible, respectful of the world and the natural environment, it is a term used more so in the electronic industry, but also applies to many other industries as they aim to use less harmful components, bio-plastics less packaging, trying to eliminate harmful chemicals like fire retardants, all things green ecological.

Environmentally friendly has two dictionary definition they are #1 'Not damaging to the environment, or directed at preventing environmental damage.' #2 'Minimizing harm to natural world: designed to minimize harm to the natural world, e.g. by using biodegradable ingredients. So being friendly to the environment is definitely doable, and these green ecological products can become more commonplace'

Fair trade, It is a socially conscious program that prevents the workers from being exploited, and ensuring they get a fair wage, a popular fair trade program has been associated with coffee such as kicking horse and Jane Goodall's brand.

Recycled, things are new products made from old, be it of plastic cardboard metal paper or glass, these materials are given a new lease of life, or by simply donating used items to thrift stores.

Sustainable Forestry, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) put their mark on products that respect the forest ecosystems, wildlife habitats, local communities and water quality, to meet their standards, the wood and resulting products are tracked from beginning to end for complying to the correct standards.

Save power in Your Kitchen

When you are washing dishes by hand, fill one basin with warm soapy water and the other with cold rinse water. This uses less water than leaving the water running while rinsing. If you don't like this idea, use a sprayer to rinse the dishes. Get one that shuts off with a spring-loaded valve. When I advise to my wife that she should only rinse the inside of the pots and pans she squirts me with the sprayer. Do not pre-rinse dirty dishes before hiding them in the dishwasher. If you have to rinse the dishes before loading them into the dishwasher, use cold water. Hold off running the dishwasher until it is full.

Turn off the heated drying cycle switch. Let dishes air dry. If your dishwasher does not have a switch, turn the control knob "Off" after the final rinse. Prop the door open a bit, so the dishes will dry faster. Check the by hand that came with your dishwasher to find the maker's recommended water temperature. Many have heating elements that allow you to set your home hot water heater to a lower temperature. 115 to 120 degrees is good.

Save Energy

Microwave ovens are great energy savers. Microwave ovens use only one-fifth as much energy as accepted stoves. Microwaves are by far the most sufficient way to cook small portions. I think that they are great for production hot snacks in the winter. Food cooks faster and uses less energy, when located on the outer edges of a rotating tray rather than in the center of the microwave.

Food cooks faster and uses less energy, as the outside to volume ratio increases. What do I mean by that? If you spread food out in a thin layer it cooks faster than if it is in a thick lump in the middle of the microwave. While hot weather, using the microwave reduces heat build up in the kitchen reducing the load on your air conditioner.

When using a gas or galvanic oven try to cut the whole of times you open the oven door. Each time the oven door is opened, it looses about one fourth of its heat.

Match pot size to burner size on your stove top. Heat is lost and energy is wasted if the burner is bigger around than the pot. Clean range top burners and reflectors to best reflect the heat to where it can be used. Put a lid on those pots. Lids hold the heat in and save energy.

On galvanic stove tops use flat bottom pans to make full taste with the heating elements. If you cook with an galvanic range, you can turn Off the burners or oven before the cooking is finished. It takes some minutes for the heating elements to lose their heat. Recovery water and energy, while you are in the kitchen is good for your cash flow and good for the environment.

If it helps promote energy independence, I can preserve that too. When we each shave a microscopic off our energy bills, it is good for the environment and good for our economy. It is nice to have good side effects while holding cash in your pocket.

recovery vigor With Cfl Light Bulbs

Energy savings covers a great deal of ground. Some of the ways need constant change, or changing the way you do things, and other ways need a one time change. Let's look at a one time convert that can reflect expansive savings. Let's do a comparison of Edison's favorite, the incandescent bulb, versus the new Cfl.

Incandescent bulbs cost on midpoint

What kind of savings can you expect if you were to convert all the bulbs throughout your house? To frame the savings we have to make safe bet assumptions. The midpoint house has 30 bulbs, and midpoint usage of 5 hours per day. With those assumptions you can save on midpoint .00 per bulb per year. That is a household savings of roughly 0 per year just changing bulbs. The costs of the bulbs are already factored in.

.50 a piece while Cfl's (compact fluorescent) cost on midpoint .50 a piece. Quite a bit of difference, but the longevity of an incandescent bulb is on midpoint 750 to 1000 hours, whereas the Cfl is 10,000 to 15,000 hours. It is very easy to see which one is the best business agreement to purchase. Now let's look at the power usage. A typical incandescent bulb you might have in a lamp is 60 watts while a similar Cfl is 15 watts. That is a whopping 75% savings in watts used per bulb.

Save Energy

Here is something to think about if you have a business, or market building. Lights are often on for 12 hours in a market environment so the midpoint Cfl will last 2 to 3 years. Wouldn't you rather pay person once every 2.5 years rather than 2 or 3 times a year to convert those bulbs? Also the longer the lights are on the more you save.

Now the real wave of the time to come is Led lights, although their cost is very high, arrival in at to compare to our above examples. They run at about a tenth the cost of an incandescent and a little less than ½ of the Cfl, arrival in at a little less than .00 per bulb per year. Led's are rated at 50,000 hours of usage, roughly 5 times that of a Cfl. Saying all that, before you all run out to convert bulbs, know that the incandescent bulbs scheme light farther and colors are viewed best under them. So changing them in the hall may be ok but not in my popular reading area or my home decorating firm office. One bonus of Cfl's or Led's are if you are reasoning about or have solar panels or other green power sources the reduced wattage will sacrifice the whole of panels you need, and that can be a big savings. I hope I have shed some light, on a sometimes confusing subject.

Save the World by recovery energy

All of us are probably guilty of wasting energy. We all seem to be experts when it comes to using it, but many of us fail miserably when we're told to save it.

The government and media are enduringly threatening us with impending doom unless we rethink the way we live our lives. We are told that we must sacrifice our "carbon-footprint". But how do we do this? Well, for starters we can sacrifice the whole of vigor we use.

Save Energy

Here are some vigor rescue tips that not only help save the planet, but more importantly help save you money!

Gas suppliers estimate that the British group wastes about £5 billion worth of vigor every year. We can help sacrifice this-and be the richer for it-by following a few straightforward guide lines:

o Clothe your boiler in a beloved lagging jacket and also insulate your pipes. By keeping your boiler toasty warm you will save yourself quite a sum over the policy of a year.

o Turn your thermostat down. Now you don't have to frost to death in the process, but by just turning your thermostat down by just 1°C could potentially cut your heating bills by up to 10%.

o Get rid of those old light bulbs! They may be cheap to buy, but they consume a load of vigor and cost you more in the long run. By switching to vigor rescue bulbs you can save up to £78 over the policy of the lifetime of the bulb.

o Us Brits love to drink tea! In Britain we boil over 100 billion kettles each year. It takes a lot of vigor to boil all of those kettles, so make sure you don't over fill them. Boil only the water you need as it takes a lot more electricity to boil a full kettle.

By following the above tips, you could help save the world!

Some Global Warming Statistics

While most people accept global warming as a fact, some still deny that humans play a significant role. Unfortunately politics are often involved, and while I don't intent to try to change anyone's mind, it's worthwhile to look at some statistical facts. These come from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) 2007 working group assessment report, which is available for free online. The IPCC is a scientific panel under the United Nations.

The average surface temperature of the planet has increased 1.33 degrees Fahrenheit between 1905 and 2005.

Global Warming

Over the last fifty years, the warming trend is almost twice that of the previous fifty years, so the rate of temperature rise is increasing.

Eleven of the past twelve years are among the twelve warmest years since 1850. This is a shocking fact!

Also, the Environmental Protection Agency reports that the sea level along the Gulf and Mid Atlantic has risen five to six inches more than the average in the last century. Glaciers and snow cover are decreasing on both sides on the equator.

Clearly the earth is warming and with this warming, snow and ice are melting and the seas are rising. Yes, the earth has cooled and warmed many times before there were humans, and one may even argue that humans alone are not to blame, as though blame matters anyways. Humans and our activities are contributing to the rapid rise in temperature, and the only questions that remain is how serious is it and how should we react.

I for one am no alarmist, but it's tough to argue with the facts presented above. I'm trying to do my part to help combat global warming and suggest everyone else do what they can as well.
