Be Sure to Recycle Your Laptop Battery

Every laptop battery, no matter what brand, will come to an end. When this happens, the temptation may be to throw that old battery out and get cranking again with a new battery. This seems to solve the problem, and allows you to get back to doing the things you love. Without a second thought, your old laptop battery could end up sitting in the back of your drawer for years. Or, worse yet, that old battery could end up in your city's landfill.

Although engineered landfills have come a long ways from the dumps they use to be, they are not build to properly dispose of batteries. Batteries contain heavy metals that may leach through landfills and prevent the natural process that breaks down most of your household trash. Instead of throwing your old battery in the garbage, takea look at recycling.

Recycling your old battery keeps the harmful heavy metals out of the ground and gives your battery to second life. The second life comes when plastics and metals are refurbished and formed into new batteries. This new battery can then be a benefit to someone else.

Recycling batteries is usually a fairly easy process. Most batteries that are not suitable to be casually discarded will have a warning against "throwing it away. Often this warning comes as a picture of a crossed out garbage can. Since each laptop battery brands may contain different requirements for recycling, your best option is to see if the battery manufacturer has a recycling program. Often there are recycling programs that make recycling very easy. Many of these programs will take yourbattery without you having to pay a cent. Not a bad deal for choosing to do something that improves the world we love.

So the next time you are at the crossroads of choosing whether to recycle your old laptop battery or not. Let your conscience be your guide and choose the environmentally friendly choice. Often, depending on where you live, recycling may be mandatory. Be sure to do your part, save the earth, protect your landfill, and stretch the earth's resources. All this by doing the simple task of sending off your old useless battery to be recycled.
